OB Simon Mills Shares the Tragedy of Titanic's Twin on BBC 2
Old Bloxhamist Simon Mills explores the tragedy of the HMHS Britannic; sister-ship of the Titanic on BBC Two documentary.

Did you catch the fascinating documentary, "Titanic's Tragic Twin: The Britannic Disaster" last night? If so, you will have seen Old Bloxhamist Simon Mills (Cr 1975-80), a renowned maritime historian and long-standing camera technician in the UK film industry. In August 1996, he bought the wreck of HMHS Britannic, the wreck at the focus of the documentary.

The documentary investigates why and how the Britannic sank. In light of the loss of the Titanic, the Britannic was re-engineered to be even stronger, but it sank in just 55 minutes (three times faster than the Titanic) when it was shaken by an explosion caused by an underwater mine near to the Greek island of Kea.

You can still catch the documentary on the BBC iPlayer. If like Simon, you are conducting a research project, or have contributed towards something we can enjoy and share with the community, let us know! Email oldbloxhamists@bloxhamschool.com or tag one of our social media profiles.
